Dear Soldier    by  the 4th Graders of St. Pius X School 2004/05

We would like to say a few words about our book.  Our class has been working very hard on this ever since the beginning of the school year.  We have been writing books for the past three years and would enter the books in the Scholastic Book Contest.  This year our teacher, Mrs. Patacsil, had a different idea. She wanted to publish the book. We began by writing letters to soldiers in the war. Then we rearranged the letters in different ways to fit our book.  Our class collected medals, pins, and pictures from our families and friends in various wars.  We scanned the pictures and medals and put them in our book.  Our principal looked over our book and was delighted. She gave us permission for the book to be printed. A grant was given to us from the Greater San Diego Industry-Education Council for $600.00 so that each one of us could have a free copy of this book. We looked for any grammar mistakes and then sent our book to different publishers in hopes to having our book published. Any money that we received off this Dear Soldier book would go to a military child services and our school library.

We are very proud to have been part of the makings of this book. We hope this book will touch many people in our country and open their hearts to have a peaceful world.
